The publicity insisted that Kate Bush was not there but we were. Although some may have been tempted to think, at times, that they were seeing a reincarnation of the famous singer, so impressive was the performance by Sarah-Louise Young.
With her vocal range and abilities, her incredible energy and flexibility, she brought a number of the famous Bush songs to life., including Babooskha, Don’t Give Up and the finale, Wuthering Heights, which the audience also sang with great enthusiasm. Kate Bush was known for her costumes, wigs and esoteric style. In this show the audience was presented with an amazing set of costumes, and wigs used to great effect.
The audience was drawn in from the start, cajoled, praised, exhorted to enjoy and participate. It was impossible not to be swept up with the atmosphere and energy, to feel part of the show. This was a high class performance presented with warmth and humour.
Kate Bush may not have been there, but Sarah-Louise Young was, and we were as well, glad to be so.
