Tim Barton Fundraiser for 5MBS

An Afternoon of World-Class Jazz, Ragtime, Classical, and Boogie n’ Blues — and a Chance to Support Your Station.

5MBS is delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed Chicago pianist Tim Barton for a special fundraising concert this January — an intimate afternoon of brilliant musicianship, lively collaboration, and classic jazz, blues and classical music in the beautiful Cynthia Poulton Hall.
If you saw Tim at the Adelaide Fringe or one of his previous 5mbs fundraisers, you’ll know why audiences find him such a delight. As one reviewer wrote, “Barton is clearly a class pianist; he is able to effortlessly play in a multitude of styles with complete ease.”
With a career spanning more than 50 years and performances everywhere from Chicago’s legendary Green Mill to Orchestra Hall and the Ravinia Festival, Tim brings a rare depth of artistry to the stage.
For this 5MBS fundraiser, Tim will open with a 30-minute solo set, drawing from a repertoire that moves effortlessly between Gershwin, Joplin, Bach, Chopin, and his own original works. He will then be joined by several of our very own 5MBS jazz presenters, all respected musicians who perform in
clubs across Adelaide, interstate, and overseas.
And in true jazz spirit, the afternoon will finish with a jam session. As Tim says, “Towards the end of the program we’ll throw open a jam — it seems
many of the 5MBS family want to play!”
