Kaleidoscope is an Arts Magazine. This program is one of the ways that 5mbs links our station to the wider music community as well as looking further afield, from time to time, at local drama, art and literature. It is an important link to the wider listening audience as we talk with some very interesting people about what interests them most. You can hear it on Wednesday 6.pm or Saturday 11am. In your own time you can access it through Listen on Demand via 5mbs.com.
Program on 2 October at 6.00pm 5 October at 11.00am or Listen on Demand via 5mbs.com
JANE FEAST is the Musical Director in the next production by the Metropolitan Musical Theatre at the Arts Theatre, opening on 17 October at 7.30. Their next musical is The Boy from Oz, based on the life of Peter Allen whose career took him from Tenterfield NSW, where he was born, to Las Vegas and New York. Jane has loved his music as long as she can remember, and is delighted to be part of the show, where, she says, all the actors are brilliant.
FIONA SALMON talks with Gabrielle Scherrer about the Art Museum at Flinders University. This is a room full of hidden treasures, as Fiona explains, and well worth a visit.
FIONA PETERSON is involved with many activities at 5mbs, including Kaleidoscope. Each year she organises the Young Virtuoso Award which is a contest between eight young musicians, divided into four categories: Voice, Piano, Wind and Strings. This is an important part of 5MBS’ encouragement of local musicians and young musicians.
Joining FIona, one of the contestants JESSICA MILLS speaks about her musical career so far and her hopes for the future.
The Young Virtuoso Awards 2024 will be held on 20 October in St John’s Church, Halifax Street at 2.30pm but you are asked to be seated by 2.15pm because the event is live-streamed
