Kaleidoscope Arts Magazine

Kaleidoscope is an Arts Magazine.  This program is one of the ways that 5mbs links our station to the wider music community as well as looking further afield, from time to time, at local drama, art and literature. It is an important link to the wider listening audience as we talk with some very interesting people about what interests them most. You can hear it on Wednesday 6.pm or Saturday 11am. In your own time you can access it through Listen on Demand via 5mbs.com.

Program to be  broadcast on 14 May at 6.00pm and 17 May at 11.00am

or you can  Listen on Demand via 5mbs.com

LOCAL HERO SERIES

During May we are featuring some of our distinguished musicians, heroes and heroines.

.

This week it is Gil Sullivan.

He has a very successful career both in Australia and internationally. Recently he has recorded all of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas, calling the series ‘Hidden Voices’ and these recordings are available digitally through his website gilsullivan.com.au

Here is a quote from the record notes:

The way we hear Mozart nowadays has become such a cliché…The sweet, pretty, right-handed (where everything in the left hand is nothing more than a mere accompaniment) playing, with all those competition fingers smoothly and effortlessly ironing out all Mozart’s eccentricities, has become the norm, where repeated phrases and whole sections are always played exactly the same way!

Gil Sullivan’s love and appreciation of Mozart has an important aspect of his career.
