Kaleidoscope is one of the ways that 5mbs links our station to the wider music community as well as looking further afield, from time to time, at local drama, art and literature. It is an important link to the wider listening audience as I talk with some very interesting people about what involves them most.
It is broadcast on Wednesday 6.pm or Saturday 11am.
In your own time you can access it through Listen on Demand via 5mbs.com.
This week it will be Wednesday 20 August 6.00pm and Saturday 23 11.00am
You will meet: Harumi Rhodes, Sofia Troncoso and Karl Geiger
HARUMI RHODES is the second violinist in the Takács Quartet. They will be giving a recital at the Adelaide Town Hall on 22 August 7.30pm as part of the Musica Viva series.
Harumi talks about how she came to study the violin as a child against her mother’s wishes and her experience as the newest member of this famous Quartet.
SOFIA TRONCOSO is making her opera debut with State Opera SA as Pamina in The Magic Flute. Sofia began her career in the US and has also had extensive experience in the UK and Europe. She is enjoying this present production, which is a joint production with Hong Kong and Beijing.
Other singers include Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Nicholas Jones, Jessica Dean and Pelham Andrews
Mozart’s The Magic Flute opens at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 28 August until 6 September.
KARL GEIGER is the Musical Director of the Adelaide Graduate Singers. Their next concert has the theme Songs of Beauty, and the program includes music by John Rutter, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Eric Whitacre. An interesting composition is by Libby Croad. The Brontë Suite, is a setting of the poetry of the three sisters to music together with a string quartet.
Aurora String and David Heath, organist are joining the Graduate Singers.
At St Peter’s Cathedral, Adelaide, 30 August 7.30pm
