Kaleidoscope is one of the ways by which 5mbs links our station to the wider music community. As well it looks further afield, from time to time, at local drama, art and literature. It is an important link to the wider listening audience as I talk with some very interesting people about what involves them most.

Keith Crellin has been Director of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra for twenty three years but he is about to step down, although he will still be involved in a less demanding way. He speaks about his time with AdYO and the end of year celebration at the Adelaide Town Hall when AdYO will give two concerts, the first at 11.30 am and the second at 5pm. These are two separate concerts showing the full scope of AdYO from quite young musicians to the older, more advanced players. An evening of Bach at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Flinders Street – Bach’s cantatas, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (BWV 140), with its beloved chorale “Sleepers, Wake,” and Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (BWV 80), a stirring work for Reformation Day. Organ ,Andrew Georg and Viola, Anna Webb, are founding members of the Adelaide Cantata Band, and they talk about the musicians who will be playing and singing these famous cantatas.

November brings On the Terrace back to Adelaide – free ensemble performances in a number of premises along North Terrace. Director of Camber Music Adelaide, Elizabeth McCall describes some of highlights. It’s all free, on 2 November 11am to 4pm.
