Kaleidoscope Arts magazine

Kaleidoscope is one of the ways by which 5mbs links our station to the wider music community. As well it looks further afield, from time to time, at local drama, art and literature. It is an important link to the wider listening audience as I talk with some very interesting people about what involves  them most.

This is the last program for this year, before we go into recess.

 

On December 24 and 27 John Pederson will present a special Christmas program.

During the summer recess Kaleidoscope will be revisiting some programs, which you may have missed, or may enjoy hearing again.

Kaleidoscope will resume in the first week of February 2026.

For this last program we decided to revisit interviews and news from the State Opera of South Australia’s production of Roméo et Juliette by Gounod. This was memorable for a number of reasons. It was forged in Adelaide from the costumes, props, scenery construction, lighting and movement, through to the final production in Her Majesty’s Theatre.

For the contributions made by the Director Rodula Gaitanou and the Set and Costume designer, takis;

For Soprano Siobhan Stagg

and for tenor Kyle Stegall.

All were of paramount importance.

Other singers gave fine performances, as did the chorus and orchestra.

Special credit and praise to Artistic Director of State Opera South Australia, Dane Lam, who conducted the performance. He, it was, who had the vision to choose this opera which will become an international production, and which is part of his vision to bring the best of the world to Adelaide and the best of Adelaide to the world. In other words, Opera without Borders.

The judgement of a number  critics, and the response of the audiences, is evidence of the overwhelming success of this production.
