The Australian String Quartet will finish their next national tour back in Adelaide and my first guest is their cellist, Michael Dahlenberg.

Author Valerie Volk has just published her eleventh book, Witnesses, with Wakefield Press. She dropped by to tell us what inspires her, and to read a short excerpt.

Dale Francesca Christopher Michael

Utopias is the title of the next  ASQ concert in Adelaide. The cellist Michael Dahlenberg talks about the relevance of the music they have chosen to play to this title.

Michael had his first encounter with the ASQ while still at school, when the then members came to play for the students. Many years on he is an enthusiastic member of the quartet himself, bringing the message to audiences, young and old, that music is one of life’s great gifts. You can hear the ASQ at the Adelaide Town Hall on the 22 May 7.00pm.

Valerie Volk has searched the Bible, and found sixteen characters, who, while not main players, still have a story to tell. People like the father of the Prodigal Son; to the comforters of Job, who secretly thought he must have done something very bad to end up the way he did; and Salome who danced the Dance of the Seven Veils and was rewarded with the head of John the Baptist on a plate.
