MUSTARD

If you have ever met the person of your dreams, only to have your dreams shattered, you will  relate to  MUSTARD, a one woman show about heart break descending into madness, and the healing power of mustard. If you haven’t, you will still follow her journey with empathy, such is the power of this one-person play.

Written and performed by Eva O’Connor, and directed by Hildegard Ryan, the play was originally produced by an Irish theatre company Fishamble: The New Play Company which ‘discovers, develop and produces new plays of national importance with a global reach’. As such it epitomises what Festivals are all about.

Eva as a lovelorn woman totally unhinged by her sense of loss gives a strong performance, full of humour, in that she presents the bizarre in such a way that the audience takes it as normal. Mustard is  a condiment and a metaphor, and in some strange way covering herself with mustard brings a certain relief to Eva’s suffering. Her performance also reflects the metaphor, strong, intense, and fiery – compelling and satisfying theatre.

At Holden Street Theatres: until 19 March
