After spending time with presenter Dave Hall, I aired my first MBS River Blues program in February 2025. As a member of the Adelaide Roots and Blues Association (ARBA), I noticed the newsletter request for a presenter and decided to offer my services. I previously presented a blues show on community radio in the NSW Mid North Coast, which is a while ago now.

My wife and I recently moved to Adelaide, partly to become part of the active live music scene. With an early background of many years playing in bands in Victoria and NSW, my plan is to return to bass playing and my preferred style of rhythm and blues.

I believe sharing with an audience is a privilege in that we, as presenters, are able to choose from the wide variety of styles, artists and eras of blues since the Mississippi Delta days where American Blues began. I enjoy researching beyond my long history of performing blues music and artists and to enhance listeners’ appreciation and knowledge of the genre. I hope I can also discuss the finer musical elements of compositions, players, singers and influences on what we listen to.

I do have many favourite artists, some who are not regarded as blues musicians. However, I am a great believer in most contemporary music having connections to the blues, and the complexity that can grow from the roots remains. Led Zeppelin is one great example, with early recordings directly related to black artists’ songs. I think I focus more on favourite songs, regardless of the artist, as I admit to looking for something a little different in arrangements or presentation. However, the standards of people like Jimmy Reed are timeless classics, and the list goes on.

When not at 5MBS, I am a Psychologist in Private Practice, hopefully heading for retirement, despite very much enjoying the role. I also enjoy engagement in motoring events and following a lifetime interest in cars and motor racing. Over many years I also  designed and built my own home on rainforest acres in northern NSW.
