Kaleidoscope is an Arts Magazine program designed to bring the music, drama and literature in the Adelaide community, and from wider afield, to 5mbs listeners. It is presented by Emily Sutherland. and can be heard each Wednesday at 6.00pm with a repeat on Saturday 11.00am.or listen to the podcast.
It’s interesting that in this week’s program, one of Australia’s most eminent composers and musicians, Carl Vine, talks about his work, while a young emerging composer, Georgina Bowden, who is also an artist, talks about her approach to composing.
Introducing the program is Roberto Cavagnoli, an expert luthier living and working in Cremona, Italy.
Roberto Cavagnoli is coming to Australia with some of his crafted instruments which will be played in an afternoon concert at Festival Theatre on 7 August 2022. A rare chance to see these valuable instruments as well as hear them played.
Carl Vine’s last CD is released by ABC Classics, also available in digital form. It features his first symphony and his last, as well as other music. He speaks about his life as a composer and the way his study of physics, as a young man, influences his work.
The CD is called The Enchanted Loom, and thereby hangs a story.
Georgina Bowden is a relatively new arrival in Australia, but she is already making her mark as a composer. She is one of the composers commissioned by Chamber Music Adelaide to complement the display at MOD gallery with the them Invisibility.
The compositions will be performed later in the year, so keep watch. Even Invisibility has an identity.
