How does a retired oil and gas engineer end up playing music on community radio?

Well when I retired, I was keen to keep active and become involved in volunteering. I have always loved music and my searching lead to 5MBS who, I must say, made it easy to come in and chat and begin training in the art of presenting. My musical tastes are varied being a child of the 60s and 70s but jazz has always appealed – particularly standards, tuneful pieces and, one of the best instruments around – the human voice. I present Jazz Lunch, Swing and Jazz Moods programs.

Since joining in 2015, I have also offered my hand in fundraising events, grid review, roster management and promotional flyers and such.

From this expansion of my jazz involvement, an interest in the wonderful musical talent we have here in SA has opened up and I do enjoy live supporting live performances.
